Good Shepherd Lutheran Church of Loudonville NY

A Community of the Lord's Faithful People Living in God's Amazing Grace

If the Ning Social Network and its members are like the congregation, then Ning Groups are like the church's committees, teams and shared interest groups.

Why start and use groups?
* Brings people together around a common interest or goal ... ex. men's group, book club, evangelism team, congregation council, bible study
* Publicizes the group and attracts new participants ... ex. another way to spread the word that the men's group exists, or to let people know what's going on in council discussions
* Actively invite new group participants ... use the invite function to let others know of a group they might be interested in
* Collects information pertinent to a group in one, easy-to-find place ... ex. want information about Book of Faith? then check in or follow the discussions at the Book of Faith Group.
* Enables group members to share information with each other ... group members can post or add to discussions

Anyone can start a group. You'll need a photo to upload (roughly square, at least 171x171 px) -- if you don't have a great photo, use any photo to get started ... you can always change it later.

Two other important choices:
* Public (viewable by all -- probably your choice) or Private Group (viewable only by group members)?
* Group members can send group-wide messages? (probably yes -- think of the convenience for any group member to send meeting reminders.)

One last tip, share the administration. The creator of the group oversees group activities, approves members, sends group-wide notices, etc. But you can let other people help with this. It's easy to add/delete other group administrators.

What group are you starting?
